Recovery Resources of Florida is an outpatient substance use treatment facility. It was established in response to the growing prescription drug abuse epidemic in the State of Florida. The team at Recovery Resources of Florida has the unique ability to identify and treat those suffering from all forms of substance use disorders.
Substance use disorders include substance abuse and substance dependence. This is defined as the dependency on or harmful usage of any substance for mood-altering purposes. This can include illicit drugs, prescription drugs, alcohol, inhalants and solvents, or other hallucinogens or stimulants. Unfortunately, all narcotics have properties that can alter cognitive function and create dependency.
The team at Recovery Resources of Florida creates individualized, alternative care plans that most often do not include the long-term usage of prescription narcotics.
Information for Physicians
Substance use disorders are measured on a continuum from mild to severe. In the case of prescription opioid misuse, while narcotics can be beneficial in the treatment plan for a patient in pain, there are serious risk factors involved when they are inappropriately distributed and/or consumed.
Because substance use disorders disrupt so many aspects of an individual’s life, treatment is complex. Some patients may present with physical pain from injuries that lead to a narcotic dependency, while others may have lifelong ailments that lead to the overuse and misuse of drugs and/or alcohol. At Recovery Resources of Florida, we are experts in accurately diagnosing patients in order to develop a tailored treatment plan.
The practice creates personalized treatment plans based on individual need, including detoxification, medication management and psychological counseling. We have the unique ability to provide appropriate psychological screening and treatment to multifaceted patients with the diagnosis of addiction, and complex pain if present. We understand that Suboxone can be utilized as a tool during the treatment process, but is not a long term solution in most cases.
Our physicians completed a fellowship in Addiction Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Subsequently, Dr. Friedman is board certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine. The facility’s team also includes Georgette Bouwhuis, ARNP, FNP-BC, who Dr. Friedman has worked with for many years and recently pursued additional training in addiction and substance abuse at the University of South Florida.
All patients treated with us will be thoroughly evaluated throughout the treatment process. To ensure continual maintenance for patients who begin their treatment program at Recovery Resources of Florida, we have developed relationships with various mental health professionals and level-three treatment centers throughout Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.
